Case Summary (Tier 4):

Sometimes the first safety net simply isn’t deep enough. James River already had a massive cover in place, but when excess and surplus casualty lines start creaking, Enstar builds a second reinforced floor underneath it.

Case Detail (Tier 5):

An absolute masterclass in defensive capital structuring.

James River was already sitting on a massive legacy problem within their US Excess and Surplus (E&S) lines, having previously secured a primary loss portfolio transfer. However, US casualty litigation is notoriously unpredictable, and their initial safety net was structurally bowing under the weight of inflation and social inflation claims.

Enstar was called back to the table to bolt an additional $75m Adverse Development Cover directly onto the roof of the existing structure.

They essentially built a secondary blast wall. If James River’s historical claims blow past their initial protections, Enstar absorbs the sheer force of the impact up to that absolute limit.
